Inside the still, heat is the music influencing and commanding the movement of plant material. As the watery medium slowly becomes uptempo and agitated by the increasing heat, the plant material circulates, oscillates and gyrates until its aromatic voices begin to loosen, and then altogether vaporize. Leaving behind its dense body in the still, rising with steam, the aromatic molecules collect in the condenser above where it is awash in cold air. For a moment it is in a liminal space, the distillate then quickly condenses and returns downward as a new identity, Essence. Lighter now, without the plant that manufactured it, these highly energetic products are known as "hydrosol" and "essential oil."

It is this moment that distilled essence is now recognizable as potent and irresistible forms of water and oil.
